Personally, I think of straw, flat-bed trucks and chew. Not the sexiest collection of images. But the Oregon girl in me has always loved plaid.
So can you wear plaid to the office? Absolutely! As long as you abide by a few basic rules, you should introduce this friendly fabric to your office (just leave your chew in the truck).
Rule 1: Dress it up!
Pair it with a classy pencil skirt or well-tailored trouser pants. You need to balance the casual nature of plaid with something simple, classic and expensive-looking.
And yes...I'm cold! ;-)
Rule 2: Do your Hair!
Stay away from hairstyles you would pair with plaid on the farm (ponytail, braiding, etc.) Go more formal and unexpected with a high bun, a french twist or in waves!
Rule 3: Shoes matter!
I prefer a neutral heel to help balance the busy pattern (use metallics as neutrals). I'm always partial to high-heels, but Tory Burch Reva Flats would be a
beautiful option if you don't like a heel.
Rule 3: Accessorize!
Adding gold, silver or other pops of color will help blend the
plaid into a more cohesive look!
